Why we built MDL

MDL First Cars was started by a group of driving-school owners and parents who kept seeing the same problem: young drivers finally pass their test, and then get lost in generic classifieds. High-insurance cars appear alongside sensible starters. Dealers hide fees. Parents can't tell what's a good deal.

We wanted something different — a marketplace that filters by what actually matters for a first car: insurance group, running costs, MOT history and dealer trust. Somewhere a 17-year-old and their parent can shop together and both feel informed.

Today we work with vetted dealers across the UK and give every car a "good first car" rating based on independent data. And it stays free for buyers — always.
